Band Update

I sent this information out in an e-mail earlier this week. Here's the information again in case you need it:

Hi parents! I wanted to update you on what we've been doing in band so far this year and what's coming up.

1- For beginning band we've made it through page 9. We've also started working on page 11, Holiday Sampler.

2- For advanced band, we've been working on pages 24-25. Advanced band will soon start working on Up on the Housetop from the band binder. 

3- We've filled out 3 practicing goal sheets with the 4th coming this week. We fill one out every Wednesday. The goal sheets are very individualized so each student will have slightly different goals. After your student plays the songs on their goal sheet for you, you can sign the sheet and your student will earn 5 band tokens. Students earn band tokens for each day that they practice as well. If you haven't had a chance to listen to your student play and sign the practicing sheet, you still can! There is no expiration date on these.

4-We've assigned Theory Worksheet #1. Many students have already completed it. It's also worth 5 band tokens. 

5-Advanced band started passing off concert B-flat Major scale today, and all students started working on passing off the rhythms on row 1 of the "I've got rhythm" page in the binder. Again, these are worth 5 tokens each.

6-We had our first prize day last week where students were able to spend their band tokens. We'll have a prize day once a month. The next one will be October 28.

7-Mark your calendars for our first concert on December 10 at 6:30pm. It will be at Terra Linda, and I believe it will be in conjunction with the choir as well but I'm still confirming that. We'll be putting on an assembly for the students also but I'm not sure what day that will be. Our assembly will definitely be a different day than the choir.

8-For those of you paying the band fee in two installments, the first $100 installment is due by the end of this month. All money goes to the main office and checks are made out to Terra Linda Elementary.

9-Finally, I've confirmed our t-shirt order and they are in the process of being printed right now! We'll wear our band shirts for all performances and we might even offer band tokens for student who wear their band shirts on prize day or something.
