About Band

Why are we here?
Quality music education is a valuable asset to any student. Students who learn to play an instrument not only show improvement academically, but also learn new skills, create friendships, and develop new talents.

How band works
Band is an extracurricular program and as such is not funded by school funds. Members of the band pay a yearly fee to cover the cost of the director, music, rehearsals, and concerts. Band is open to students in grades 4-6. Beginning band rehearses on Wednesdays from 8:00-8:45am and Fridays from 2:00-2:45. Advanced band is on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00-8:45am.

Practice at home
In order to truly have success in band students will need an instrument in good working order and practice at home. The amount of time practiced isn't as important as consistently practicing each day. Five minutes of practice time each day may not yield results as quickly as more time, but it's better than nothing! 15 minutes of practice time per day is optimal. Practice time should consist of warm-up, technical studies, and repertoire (concert pieces and solos).

How do I join band?
Register online by September 14. Online registration will start in mid-August. (Late registrations will be accepted until the end of September.) We'll start beginning band at Terra Linda on September 19 and advanced band on September 7. Students will need to have their instruments by that day.
